Recently I met Brienne, a young female Leonberger, with her owner Karin Diric of district pet care business Zoohause (0439 622 709).
According to legend the dogs were bred as a “symbol dog” to mimic the lion in the town crest of the German town, Leonberg.
They were bred from Newfoundland, Saint Bernard and Great Pyrenees dogs.
On the day I met Brienne she was more akin to a lamb than a lion!
If you are also a dog lover like Karin, why not support the RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk this Sunday, May 21.
The nearest venue is Victoria Park, Goulburn where registration is open from 9am with the 2.5 kilometre walk starting at 11am.
There is online registration as well and 100 percent of the day’s fundraising will go directly to helping animals in need.
IN GOOD SHAPE
The Community Outreach Meeting by the council in Gunning showed that the fundamentals are in good shape with all ratios meeting NSW Government “Fit for the Future” benchmarks.
There is a $28 million operating budget; capital expenditure of $12.5 million in 2017/2018 and $40 million of infrastructure works over the next 4 years.
The Local Environment Plan (LEP) is to be reviewed and community input will be sought in the near future.
About $200,000 has been allocated for streetscape program in towns and villages.
Capital works projects in the Gunning district include MR52 Gundaroo Road and Devils Elbow plus various local road gravel re-sheeting.
There will be repairs and improvements to Gunning library and swimming pool. Collector will benefit from nearly $400,000 worth of works.
Rates will increase on average - $30pa residential; $24 pa business; $18 farmland; and $16 residential (non-urban). There will also be increases in waste, sewerage and water supply charges.
Over the last three years, nearly $1107 million was spent on Gunning district projects including $10.8 on our Water Treatment Plant, which was opened on May 22, 2014.
MEMORIAL PLANT
After their May meeting last Sunday, members of the Gunning Garden Club planted a beautiful native plant in memory of former member Pauline Wicksteed, who loved natives and was most generous with her advice about them.
The club chose Correa Pulchella Orange Glow, a stunning plant that blooms through autumn and winter with gorgeous bird-attracting, orange, tubular bells.
Check it out in the garden outside the Tony Foley Centre.
