The compost area reduces the time it takes to properly break down food and organic waste, allowing us to create a mulch product within 14 weeks.
It’s interesting to know that in the past year over 2,840 tonnes of organic waste has been brought into the Goulburn centre: 766 tonnes was brought in by self-haul while we collected over 2070 tonnes; the new pad will allow us to better handle this waste.
A post on Facebook about this new organic waste area brought on questions from the community about food waste.
We want to make it clear that we can handle all food waste in your green bins so please take advantage so we can compost this waste instead of seeing it go into landfill! We’d like to remind the public that food waste must not be in plastic bags; it has to go into your green bin free of any packaging.
UC Students present ideas
Many of you will have been following along with this collaboration with University of Canberra students to create landscape design concepts for the River Walkway.
The five students differed in their ideas, with each coming up with an innovative concept for the space, including the use of mobile phone applications for ‘geocaching,’ activation of Leggett Park as an event space with a plaza and viewing platforms over the river or a man-made beach and community space at the Old Boathouse!
All of the ideas thrown around are very exciting, and the collaborative project was well worth undertaking.
The next stage of the Walking Track incorporates an elevated walkway around the rock face at Joshua Street, and we will soon begin work on the footbridge that will link the walking track with Gibson Street.
The design concepts are now within the Council Chambers at the Civic Centre (184 Bourke Street, Goulburn) and the community is invited to come and examine the designs between 8:30am-5pm Monday to Friday.
We will definitely keep these concept ideas on file, and who knows what may come of them in a few years’ time.
