October is International Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it is a great opportunity to raise awareness of breast cancer, raise much needed funds for research and to show your support for women battling this disease.
Breast cancer is the most common life-threatening cancer facing Australian women.
Every day in 2017, 48 Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and eight women will die from the disease - mothers, sisters, wives, daughters and friends - leaving countless families devastated.
Professor Sarah Hosking, chief executive officer of the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) said, “We know research is the only way to stop deaths from breast cancer and create a better tomorrow for those affected.
“Our researchers have come a long way but there is still so much to be done to reach our goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.”
If you are wondering how you can help, consider holding a Pink Ribbon event during October.
National Breast Cancer Foundation and Cancer Council have plenty of ideas for fundraising events on their websites and will use your donations no matter how big or small to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
Cancer Council’s major fundraiser during Pink Ribbon Month is Girls’ Night In where they are encouraging women to get together with their friends, have fun and donate the money they would usually spend on a night out.
NBCF is running their Pink Ribbon Breakfast campaign for the 15th year and are asking you to host a breakfast at your workplace, school or at your home.
If you feel like being creative you could even come up with your own fundraising idea. You could hold a raffle, get your workplace or sporting club to wear pink, dye your hair pink, turn part of your community pink or have a barbecue with pink themed-food.
If you can’t hold an event but would like to donate, you can either find an event to support or go to the websites at www.girlsnightin.com.au or www.pinkribbonbreakfast.org.au to make a direct donation.
Every dollar counts!
