The boys started their championship strongly on Friday with a 7-1 win first up. They continued their weekend with only one loss advancing them to the semi final against a strong Bathurst side, where the score was to finish with a 5-5 draw. Unfortunately the boys were to miss the final as Bathurst had finished higher in the round games, which gave them the finals berth.
The under 13s girls proved to be our golden girls, bringing home the medals in both Division one and two in convincing fashion. The number one side went through the competition undefeated with 17 goals for and 7 against. Their structure throughout the tournament is to be commended and although there were some tight clashes, the maturity of the players as a whole saw little panic and trust in themselves and their ability. Taking out the semi final against Manning Valley 3-2 gave the girls the final berth against Central Coast, who over the last few years have developed as an Indoor Association. The Goulburn girls were always in control and took the gold medal match 4-2.
The number two Goulburn Girls, playing in Division 3, were the icing on the cake. The young side was always going to be competitive, but we didn't realise just how competitive these young ladies could be. From the outset they showed their domination, hitting off their weekend with a solid 6-0 win over home team Orange. They held their structure well to outclass their opponents.
The girls continued their winning way through the weekend, only suffering a narrow 2-1 loss to a much older and physically stronger Sydney East team. This did not deter the girls but simply gave them a benchmark to beat. They moved through the competition with a massive 31 goals for and only four against them, which certainly proved their ability. After moving through the semi final, defeating Metro South West 2-1, the girls again took on the strong Sydney East team. This time they reversed the result with a hard fought 1-0 win.
Sophie Pagett, Mikayla Jones, Ella Smith and Fletcher Craig have been named in the NSW State teams.
This weekend the NSW Championships return to Goulburn, where the Under 18 Women's titles will be held at the Goulburn Veolia Arena commencing on Friday.
