Back to the future
A Post journo had a futuristic experience recently when he visited the Apple Store in Canberra to buy some headphones for his Iphone. Selecting them from the wall, he looked for a counter to purchase the said item. No luck. The object resembling a counter was instead labelled “a genius bar” where obviously very intelligent conversations were taking place.
Trying to flag down a human to assist him in the busy store was akin to flagging down a taxi on Oxford Street at 3am – no luck, until he almost tackled one of them in desperation and cried: “I just want to buy this bloody thing!” The assistant said to him: “Don’t you have the app? You can just buy it with that.” The journo replied incredulously: “What? And just leave the store without any human interaction at all?” “Yes,” he was told by the perplexed store assistant. ‘It is a brave new world indeed,’ he thought.
Things are just sweet
The Post council reporter is forever grateful to Cr Peter Walker for tossing a couple lollies her way at the recent meeting. The gesture followed our Town Talk several weeks ago that council executive staff had bowls brimming full with lollies placed before them but alas, the media, up the other end, rarely had any. Cr Walker was kind enough to give us a Fantale and a Mintie, joking that we must have little to write about. Not really – it’s just an observation. Long may the generosity continue!
Rowdy races misses a beat
Ladies Day at the races is known for a lot of things. Aside from the fashions on the fields, the big winners or the live entertainment – Ladies Day, in any city, usually opens the floodgates for weird and wacky incidents.
Maybe it’s the presence of horses. Maybe the unnecessary long cues for the toilet, or even the champagne – but what we do know is put them all together and something is certainly brewing.
This year it was safe to say that the festivities were responsible and civil. Nothing crazy or out of the ordinary, in fact, the affair was almost tame. Well done Goulburn, you never cease to amaze us.
