With seven races, Goulburn district trained horses look very well placed to bag the majority.
Leading the way will be young trainer Brad Hewitt who will start Im All Courage (race 2), Recipe For Dreaming (race 3) and Real Obsession (race 7). All three look to have strong winning chances. Real Obsession will carry the most interest. The 4 year old mare has won her last 4 starts including a $20,000 Club Menangle Where Horses Fly Series Final when she led before going on to score in a 1:53.4 mile. In Sunday’s Goulburn Soldiers Club Pace the mare has drawn barrier 6 and is likely to work forward as the leaders settle in the run. On occasions the mare has been a little scratchy in her gait and Hewitt is unlikely to bustle her too early.
In a strong field of pacers, A Sweet Success appeals as one of the hardest to beat. Starting from the 1 barrier, the mare is trained by club president Dennis Day, and on the last occasion the two pacers met A Sweet Success chased hard throughout when beaten 14 metres into second place at Canberra during November.
Last start winner Sandblaster has drawn wide in barrier 8 but the Scott Hewitt trained pacer was most impressive when he out gunned Rainbow Flash and Miracle Smile in a C2/3 event at this track. The 5 year old gelding has been in great form this season and appeals as a strong chance in a very good field.
Sam Hewitt, younger brother of Brad Hewitt, will start Muscle Mach in the RSM Accountants Pace and the 4 year old pacer looks a very strong winning chance after drawing barrier 1. A last start Canberra winner in fast time, Muscle Mach looks the likely leader and one of the best bets on the program.
With the first race scheduled for 12.37 pm, gates open from 11.30 am. Entry to the course is free, and the club encourages all to come out for a great afternoon of competitive and interesting racing, and to experience the air conditioned Grace Millson Function Centre.
