Last month, rain – just before the cars were due to start racing – forced the club to abandon the Frank Nicastri Memorial Cup.
Featured on the program is the third round of the NSW GJ Gardner Super Sedan Series, which has attracted 14 cars including local campaigner Paul Kranitis and, for the first time racing, his son Kurt Kranitis.
Kurt is new to speedway racing as a driver, though he has for some time been a flagman and on occasions driven the water truck or other support vehicles.
“It is a big move for him climbing straight into one of these big powerful machines,” Paul Kranitis said.
“Goulburn will be running A and B divisions for the heats on Saturday, which will give Kurt a chance to get used to racing before the feature, where both divisions will combine.
“His car is a 186 block Holden six-cylinder stroker with a Ford Falcon crank. The engine has been rebuilt and there should be plenty of power for him. Body panels are a mix of aluminium and plastic similar to those on the Late Models.
“We have had to do quite a bit of work on the car since he bought it and hopefully we will have it right on the night.
“If the track gets some sun on it, the surface should be perfect for racing, with plenty of grip, which will suit all the classes.”
Also racing on Saturday night are the Production Sedans with locals Damien McAlister, Craig McAlister, Darren Snowden, Brett Norman and David House expected to race.
This will be round one of the East Coast Production Sedan Series.
Lightning Sprints are a class that many local speedway fans will not have seen for some time. The smaller scale versions of the iconic winged sprint cars are super fast and the drivers highly competitive.
Modlites and Micro Sprints will also be on the action packed program. Gates open at 4pm with racing due to start at 6pm.
The canteen will be operating as usual and as this is the club's last meeting before Christmas Santa will have lollies for the kids.
