Eighteen cars started in the heats, which were split into two groups, and by the end of the all in final 30 lap feature race only eight cars remained.
According to Goulburn competitor Damien McAlister at least a couple of the finishers would have only lasted another lap or two.
McAlister was forced out on the second lap of the feature after a racing incident when he was overtaking the car running third and his right hand front tyre wall was spiked.
Mc Alister had scored a fifth, second and first in the heats and was positioned on the second row of the grid for the feature.
His brother Craig broke an axle in the first heat but after getting his car back on the track, suffered a failure mid way through the feature.
“Darren Snowden was the only local driver to finish the feature,” Damien McAlister said. “But he was lucky to limp home in fifth position after blowing a radiator hose with two laps to go.
“There was a good crowd at the speedway on Saturday night but the heat took its toll on the cars.”
Second in the Rocky Hill Royale was Josh Crang and third Jack Milthorpe. In the Micro Sprints Ernie Havas was first, Paul Curran second and Lachlan Isaacs third.
At the start of the night a minutes silence was held to remember former Goulburn speedway member and driver, Mark Ralph who passed away on December 29, from a heart attack. Mark’s son Johnny is a keen competitor in the Production Sedans. Mark was born on January 5, 1965, raised in Goulburn and started speedway racing in 1986. Mark’s funeral is at Craigs Hill Crematorium on Friday, at 11am.
Liam Heaton won the Legend Car feature with Jacob Griffin second and Haden Pascoe third.
Shane Murphy brought his Modified Sedan home first, followed by Clint Watson and Brad Wise was third.
Goulburn Speedway is expecting another big meeting on January 20 with the return of the Southern Super Sedan V8s. Also on the program are Compact Speedcars, Formula 500s, Modlites GP Midgets and the always popular Fender Benders.
The East Coast Production Sedans round two is in Nowra, on January 20. They will be back racing in Goulburn on February 10, then at Fairbairn Park the next day.
Damien McAlister said the Goulburn boys were looking to the Victorian title on February 3, heading to Maryborough Qld for the Australian titles April 13-15, then Kingaroy for the Queensland titles on April 21.
