One of Goulburn Amateur Swimming Club’s promising young swimmers used her family holiday to compete in the South Australian Country Championships.

Emily Weston, 12, had already recorded times that qualify her for the NSW Country Championships, being held next month. They also met the SA requirements, so why not make the most the family holiday in Broken Hill and, besides training in the city’s Regional Aquatic Centre, compete too? Her parents arranged clearance from Swimming NSW and nominated her for the events. Her coach, Stef Wild, said Emily is a very dedicated young swimmer, who regularly trains four days a week.
“Em trains really hard and the results are showing, with country qualifying times in many events,” Mrs Wild said. “She is one of Goulburn’s 30 swimmer’s competing at in Southern NSW Country Regional Swim Meet at Goulburn’s Aquatic Centre this weekend, January 27 and 28.
In the SA competition from January 5 to 8, Emily achieved four personal bests and brought home four bronze and a silver medal, representing Goulburn Amateur Swim Club, She was supported by the Silver City Swim Club’s cheer squad and coaches. Stef Wild also provided coaching from afar via mobile telephone.
