Margaret will be ably assisted by her committee of: secretary Marie Pedlow, treasurer Kathy Hunt, welfare officer Brenda Writer, publicity officer Delma Nelson and historian Beryl Bales. Congratulations and welcome ladies, the Club is in good hands!
There are still some unfilled positions for our committee, so if there is any interest in these please step up and have a go. These can be very rewarding and help you learn more about your Club and VIEW Clubs of Australia.
Annual subscriptions ($20) for 2018 are due and it would be appreciated if you could pay these to the Club Treasurer by March 31.
Dawn Carey received a Certificate of Appreciation, presented by zone councillor Annie Brown-Bryan, for her contributions to Goulburn Day VIEW Club. Congratulations, Dawn.
Our next luncheon will be our International Women’s Day on March 1. The cost is $30 pp with RSVP to Margaret Gooch, 4822 1859, by February 25. Guest speaker will be Toni Reay, regional manager for Anglicare, covering Goulburn Mulwaree, Upper Lachlan and Yass Valley. An interesting speaker with a wide range of responsibilities under her umbrella.
We are going to combine a St Patrick’s Day theme for this luncheon, so please wear something green or if you would like to come in fancy dress please do. How wonderful, two celebrations at the same luncheon.
Goulburn Day VIEW Club meets on the first Thursday of each month at 11.30am at the Goulburn Soldiers Club. If anyone would like to join us for our Luncheons or for further information on Goulburn Day VIEW Club please contact Margaret on 4822 1859 or go online to view.org.au
Sponsor a child
Goulburn Day VIEW Club is calling on the community to help end poverty one student at a time, by sponsoring an Australian child through The Smith Family children’s education charity.
Disadvantaged students are sponsored by both Goulburn VIEW Clubs through The Smith Family’s Learning for Life sponsorship program, which provides long-term targeted educational support for Australian children in need.
Goulburn Day VIEW Club president Margaret Gooch says while their club is making a difference to the lives of these students, the need is so much greater.
“Right now, one in seven children and young people are living below the poverty in line in Australia,” she said. “The effects of poverty go beyond a child’s home life, affecting their schooling. When a child doesn’t have the basics they need for school they can feel different and isolated, and students can become disengaged over time and at risk of dropping out of school early or altogether.
“These students need our help now, and by supporting their education, we can set them on a pathway out of poverty.”
The Smith Family’s sponsorship program supports a child throughout their education journey, starting in primary through to secondary and onto tertiary studies. The program provides disadvantaged students with financial support for education essentials, access to out-of- school learning programs and support from a local Smith Family worker.
“We’ve seen firsthand how sponsorship is making a life-changing difference to the students we sponsor,” Ms Gooch said. “Our Club regularly communicates with our sponsored students, writing letters, sending birthday cards and we receive regular updates on students’ school progress.
“Throughout the year we support the work of The Smith Family and we would love for the Goulburn and District community to join us and lend their support to sponsor a child. Individuals and local businesses are able to sponsor a child and it costs just $1.60 per day.
“The Smith Family has identified more than 4000 children who are urgently in need of a sponsor. For these children, having someone believe in them and support their education can make a lasting difference to their lives.”
