Geoff Achison will also be a feature performer over the weekend and he will be giving a concert and workshop for the students at Mulwarree High School today as well as helping with the performances in the evening.

Mulwaree High music teacher John Russell said Mulwaree students features prominently but Goulburn High and Trinity Catholic College students are also playing on the night.

“There are a range of performers from Mulwaree, across year 7 to Year 12,” Mr Russell said.

“Well-known band M Funk are opening the night and it will be over two hours of entertainment. It will be a great place to  see Goulburn youth putting their wares on display.

Mulwaree High deputy Russell Lieshke said it was a real showcase for the young people. 

“It started a few years ago when we tried to expand the range of music they get exposed to and also to allow multiple schools to have an opportunity  to perform to a larger audience,” Mr Lieschke said. 

“We are also now officially on the program - thanks to Geoff Bell.

“Well-known blues performer, Geoff Achison is also coming into the school on Thursday to do a concert and masterclass in the afternoon and hopefully jam with the kids.

“This is the fourth year we have done this. We kick off the festival with a bang.” 

The Goulburn Club will have an Open Mic running from Friday 5pm to 9pm and again on Saturday from 1pm to 8pm.

Goulbur Club entertainment coordinator Ron McLaughlin said the open Mic said the Open Mic draws people in.

“This is a chance for anyone, local or out of town to step up and put their name down for a half hour spot and has been very popular in the past,” Mr McLaughlin said.

“Anyone who wants to pre-book a spot can do so by contacting music@goulburnclub.com.au. or just turn up on the day and claim any spots still available.”

On both Friday and Saturday Night the Canberra Blues Society will host the Blues Jam from 9.30pm - 1.30am.

“These are nights where some of Australia’s best blues performers will get together to jam,” he said. 

The Friday night also features the Marji Curran band as the House band. Sunday will also be a chance to wind down with a pancake brunch from 11am at the Club followed by ‘Ukes play The Blues’ from 12 noon to 1.30pm

“This is where several local ukulele groups come to have a bit of fun and a laugh playing and singing blues tunes on ukuleles,” he said.

“The ukulele is not strictly a traditional blues instrument but one that more and more people are taking up and playing all sorts of songs and tunes with. Ukulele playing is all about having fun and joining in, so for an hour or so you can bring your uke, kazoo or handclaps and play and singalong with a few favourite blues songs.”
