The RFS has excellent information which can be obtained from your local Rural Fire Station and from the website and mobile apps.
Please be aware of your obligations relating to the need for permits and notification if you are planning to burn even a small amount.
NSW Farmers encourages farmers and other landholders to join your local brigade and undertake basic training. Even if you do not wish to be an active firefighter, you will be informed and better skilled in preparing and defending your own property.
Most importantly, we urge everyone to be careful not to start a fire. Just a small spark from a mower or other implement can create a bushfire, especially on hot, windy days. For those who enjoy a campfire, be especially careful that it is lit in a safe area and properly extinguished before you leave.
Ian McLennan, from Lake Bathurst, and myself represent NSW Farmers on the Southern Tablelands Zone Bushfire Management Committee. This forum gives us the opportunity to raise and discuss issues with the RFS and other agencies, especially before and after each Fire Season.
NSW Farmers policy staff and elected members are also in regular contact with RFS Senior staff in Sydney about matters raised by our members.
And remember if you think an unattended fire has started, especially after lightning strikes, ring 000.
