The occasion was Goulburn’s 155th anniversary, gazetted in 1833, and the official ceremony was led by mayor Bob Kirk, Goulburn MP Pru Goward, and Dean of St Saviour’s Phillip Saunders.
Mulwaree High School captain Eliza Patatoukos, Goulburn High School captain Regan Handley and Trinity Catholic College Year 10 student Alexander Dawes also spoke from the park rotunda.
They each spoke with heart and humour on the topic of why they love their hometown.
Several dozen students from Goulburn East Public School then raised the rotunda roof with a round of Happy Birthday, and the cake was cut and shared among the crowd.
