The Goulburn Group’s members are rightly concerned that power plays in Canberra continue to squander public trust and real action on climate change.
The Monash Forum, more like a self-help group for bruised egos longing to be Prime Minister, want new coal fired plants built at tax payers expense. This is the latest attempt by disaffected MPs to derail the government’s plan for market certainty, critical for a transition to clean energy.
Goulburn’s economy is boosted by wind and solar projects. Assurances from Angus Taylor, Federal Member for Hume, that he is “technology neutral” is questionable given his opposition to regional wind projects. Out spruiking “affordable, reliable power” Mr Taylor rarely mentions “emissions” as the third pillar of effective energy policy. We have to wonder where he really stands.
Slogans without substance are becoming the hallmark of successive NSW and Federal Governments who have destabilised the energy market and facilitated asset sales to middle men. Check the network charges on your electricity bill.
As a mother and community leader I’m angry that a bunch of suits in Canberra pursue power and privilege at the expense of our children’s future. A healthy environment benefits all but is absolutely critical for our kids. There are a lot of things that need attention in Australia and politicians, like the rest of us, need to get to work!
Meanwhile, Community Energy for Goulburn’s tireless volunteers edge closer to a public share offer to build Goulburn’s first community owned solar farm. Be part of the solution and sign up for progress reports at www.ce4g.org.au.
