After winning the first two rounds of the season against the Belconnen Sharks and the Gungahlin Bulls, respectively, the Bulldogs came away from their most recent clash with the Tuggeranong Bushrangers with their first loss.
Bulldogs coach, Adam Kyle, said that the loss was in part due to the Bushrangers’ excellent form, and his own team’s untimely errors.
“Tuggeranong were fantastic last week, but we really didn’t help ourselves,” Kyle said.
“We made a lot of errors, we struggled to get to the right places on the field, probably a few uncharacteristic errors.
“I think we’ve really had a good look at ourselves this week about what we can do to get ourselves back on the right path.”
Although Kyle said that the team was “really happy with how we’re travelling at the moment”, it will be critical for the Bulldogs to ensure that they are back to their best, because they are due to take on competition heavyweights, the Queanbeyan Kangaroos.
The Kangaroos have had an underwhelming season thus far, with one win, one loss, and one bye making it too early yet to gauge their calibre.
However Kyle is aware of the chokehold that both Queanbeyan sides have had on the ACT competition in recent years, and he will not underestimate them.
“The two Queanbeyan sides have been the two top dogs in the Canberra comp for a long time now, and I guess everyone strives to have their consistency,” he said.
It is this culture of consistency that Kyle believes is the key to Queanbeyan’s longstanding form.
“They turn up for every game, and they’re very well prepared,” Kyle said.
“Their coaching staff for both sides for a long time have been ex-NRL players, very experienced, their recruitment is very smart as well.
“With that comes pressure, but they’re very good at handling that pressure, and they know there’s a target on their back every week … and they play as if they know that too.”
Rather than focusing on Queanbeyan’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of the match, Kyle is instead ensuring that his players focus on their own team.
“This week, we’re just worried about our own game,” Kyle said.
“We know exactly what Queanbeyan are gonna bring, but it’s important that we look after ourselves first.”
The Goulburn Workers Bulldogs will take on the Queanbeyan Kangaroos from 3:00pm on Saturday April 28 on Seears Workwear Oval, Queanbeyan.
