Goulburn Argyle Rotary recognises this, so they are sponsoring a Free Men’s health check van to come to Goulburn on Friday, May 11 and 12 from 10.am to 4pm at the top end of Belmore Park.
Goulburn Argyle Rotary president Mick Pearson said it would be an opportunity for men to get themselves tested for a range of health issues.
“Blokes don’t take very good care of themselves,” Mr Pearson said.
“We just say – it’ll be right and get on with things. There’s always something better to do than get our health checked.
“Don’t be scared – just turn up and get yourself checked out.”
Mission Australia Area Manager Daniel Strickland also said men needed to lead by example.
“As men, fathers,brothers and role models it is important that we lead by example to have our health checked. Do yourself and family a favour and get checked this weekend,” he said.
Acting District Police Commander for Hume Michael Rowan said he knew from experience that men can neglect their health.
“I commend every man to use the check,” he said.
Goulburn Argyle Rotary member Heni Hardi said as a woman she also encouraged to all men go for free health check “to make your woman happy.”
The free health checks at the Men’s Health Education Rural Van and include: blood pressure to check the heart isn’t too stressed, blood sugar levels, which involves a pin-prick in the finger to check for type two diabetes and a check for cholesterol to see if the levels are too high and need attention.
