The Goulburn-based racer applied the knowledge gained from his most recent season into practice, and delivered new career highlights in 2017/18.
Granger exceeded his own expectations in the opening NSW Club Championship round at Valvoline Raceway, and he drove to an impressive feature-race win at the track where he had never cracked the top 10.
A heat-race win then followed at the NSW Title at Valvoline Raceway, where he continued to finish 17th in the feature race.
Another season highlight for Granger was a strong Australian Championship campaign, which was also held at Valvoline Raceway.
He went up against almost 100 of the best drivers from all over the country, and qualified directly into the preliminary feature race on the opening night of competition.
That form was backed up on night two, where he started from position 18 for the Australian Championship-deciding feature race, and improved five positions to take home a 13th place finish.
Granger’s consistent competitiveness saw him land inside the top three in the NSW Club Championship point standings for the majority of the season. This was a great improvement from last season’s 28th-place finish.
In a testament to his character both on and off the track, Granger was also named Clubman of the Year, and he received the joint Driver’s Driver award with Nathan Dicker.
“It’s been a great season for us and to finish third in the NSW Club Championship and to improve so much on last season’s result is pleasing,” Granger said.
He credited his solid results to his family, crew and sponsors, and Granger had a multitude of people behind him who all helped to make the 2017/18 season a success.
“None of these results can be achieved without a lot of help and support from a number of individuals and also businesses,” he added.
“Firstly, I have to thank my crew chief Paul Chapman and my other full-time crew member Troy Roberts for all of the hard work they put in at the track at every race meeting this season.
“Secondly, a big thank you goes to my amazing wife Kim, who not only supports me completely but also looks after the team’s social media. I’d also like to thank Don Baxter for his support and my mum Pam, who’s the reason we got into the sport.”
Granger also thanked his sponsors and said that “none of this would have been possible without your support and I’m very grateful.”
