It was surprising to learn that so many preferred our cold climate.
Mother’s Day gifts were distributed by the Garden Club with a variety from chocolates to camellias with one for each member.
The next meeting will be on June 14 when June Stockel will show the latest video on the Chelsea Flower Show.
Names must be in before June 8 at a cost of $20. Morning tea will be 10am for 10.30am.
RAFFLE RESULTS
The Anglican Women struck a bad weather day (Saturday) for their fundraising day but were pleased with the results of the stall and raffle.
Melissa Fleming won the raffle but prizes also went to Cath Heath, Wilma Forsyth and John Balfour.
SUPPORT FOR PROGRESS
President, Don McKay, asks residents to come to the annual meeting of the local Progress Association.
The association liaises with Upper Lachlan Shire Council; works to improve the quality of life for district residents and produces the annual Art Show.
The monthly meeting is held in the Taralga Hotel – the AGM will be on June 4 at 7.30pm. Please come and have your say on local issues.
AN EXHIBITION
Former resident of the Wombeyan Caves district, the talented Jon Lewis, has an exhibition of photos at the Art Head Gallery which was opened last week by Richard Glover, columnist with the Sydney Morning Herald.
Locals who attended the opening included Michael and Annette Chalker, Stirling Dixon, Peter Davies, Megan and John Menzies.
Pictures were taken over the years from the Wombeyan Caves district and islands threatened by a rising ocean. The Gallery is open from Thursday to Sunday until May 31.
BI-CENTENARY PLAN
The Historical Society is sponsoring a meeting to be held at 2pm in the Masonic Hall on Sunday, May 20. The aim of the meeting will be to guage if there are enough interested organisations to form a committee to celebrate the bi-centenary of the discovery of Taralga in 1819. Do see that a representative comes from your group and everyone will be asked to contribute suggestions for perhaps a weekend celebration.
RED CROSS LUNCH
The annual Red Cross Lunch will be held in the Jameson Hall on Friday, June 1. The cost will be $20. Please give your name to Ken Fleming or a Committee member before May 25.
