The royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle turned into a who's who of some of the world's biggest celebrities.

Sir Elton John, Serena Williams, James Cordern and Priyanka Chopra were among celebrities, royalty, athletes and family friends in the 600-strong congregation invited to St. George's Chapel in Windsor.

Talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey was an early arrival, along with Idris Elba and singer James Blunt.

George Clooney and his wife Amal arrived a short while later along with David and Victoria Beckham.

Members of the cast of Suits, the TV show Ms Markle starred in until her engagement, were also seated in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

But it wasn’t just star friends.

The family of Harry's mother, Diana, the Princess of Wales, also attended, along with Earl Spencer, his children and former wife Kitty.

Lady Jane Fellowes, one of Diana's sisters, gave a reading.

The Duchess of Cambridge's parents Carole and Michael Middleton, and siblings James and Pippa, also attended.

Sarah Ferguson, the former wife of Harry's uncle the Duke of York, walked in later wearing a navy suit.

No politicians were invited, except for former British prime minister John Major who took on a guardian role for Prince Harry after Diana's death.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wed at the chapel in an hour-long service starting at 9pm Sydney time.

Harry's mentor, former Welsh Guards officer Mark Dyer, arrived at St George's Chapel, as did the prince's former girlfriend Chelsy Davy.
