Councillors heard at their last meeting that heavy vehicles had been using it as a shortcut between Rosemont Road and Mountain Ash Road. Traffic counts recorded an average 60 vehicles (all types) daily. The road receives two maintenance grades annually.
Residents requested its reconstruction but the council said traffic volumes did not justify this. Councillors adopted the lower load limit instead. The school bus and deliveries for residents are exempt.
Roadside tree clearing will take place and the council will apply to the RMS for a reduced speed limit. In addition, the council will undertake periodic monitoring to ensure compliance with the load limit along the 3.2km stretch.
Waste cards go electronic
The council is introducing an electronic rural waste card system for rural residents.
They will replace cardboard cards that are currently punched on entry to landfills. Council staff said the electronic form would enable easier tracking of cards, including lost, stolen or damaged ones. Where cards were only partially used, they could also be transferred to a new property owner.
Rural residents who don’t receive a domestic waste pick-up pay $105 annually for the cards. It entitles them to 52 standard disposals, including household, recycling and organic waste.
The new cards will be introduced from July 1, costing the same amount. The council will pay $6500 for the new software.
Members join up for fishing party
Goulburn Tackleworld owner Josh Lambert is among those accepted for a recreational fishing working party.
The council initiative aims to identify a recreational fishing strategy for Pejar Dam and the Wollondilly River, within the Goulburn city limits.
Crs Peter Walker and Andrew Banfield are already members. Cr Darren O’Brien from Upper Lachlan was also nominated.
Following a community expression of interest, councillors last Tuesday endorsed Mr Lambert, Bianca Coombs, Ben Croker, Paul Croker, Daniel Lewis and Ryan Morris as members.
The group’s first meeting will be arranged. One of their tasks is to identify infrastructure, such as picnic areas, to enhance fishing spots along the waterways.
