Crookwell trainer Daniel Rowell will start Roarn in the last race of the day, the $6,360 Goulburn Soldiers Club Pace and is hoping for a top 3 finish to keep his horse’s chances alive in the Canberra and Goulburn Regional horse of the year.
Roarn is presently second with 35 points behind the Josh Powderly trained Topsie Grinner who leads the way on 39 points.
A last start winner at the track, Roarn has drawn gate 3 but comes up against a strong field of in-form pacers. The winner of 2 of his last 4 starts, Roarn has also finished an impressive second at Menangle in an M0 pace during that time.
To be driven by Canberra’s Scott Osmond, Roarn is likely to settle back in the field but will be finishing off strongly in the concluding stages.
The Sydney visitors I Am Serengeti and Rockn Brushgrove have both drawn well in gates 2 and 1 respectively.
As the former three-year-old 1,710 metre track record holder, I Am Serengeti has been racing well in stronger company and appeals a leading hope. Trainer KerryAnn Turner will be looking for a strong showing from the pacer who in recent starts has been a winner at Bathurst in a fast 1:54.7 mile rate.
Rockn Brushgrove is trained by Pheasants Nest horseman Peter Rixon and while remaining winless this season, the five-year-old gelding has been racing very consistently at Menangle and the Sydney provincial tracks.
From gate one, Rockn Brushgrove will likely settle with the race leaders and should be fighting out the finish.
Others with strong chances include the Neil Day trained That’s Ideal and the Tim Butt trained Return Ace. In a strong form race Roarn is likely to find the conditions to overwhelm the opposition in the closing stages.
While Sunday’s meeting has again drawn strong representation from Sydney trainers, local trainer Sam Hewitt will be looking to Muscle Mach to provide him with a return to the winner’s circle.
Contesting the $6,360 RSM Accountants Pace, Muscle Mach has drawn barrier 10 and will be hoping to get into a handy position on the back of Gunna Cullect who has drawn gate two.
The four-year-old Rock N Noll Heaven gelding has been racing very consistently and last start was a very good second at Menangle in a 1:53.4 mile.
Hardest to beat will be the Dean Cernovskis trained Vettel. Based at Gunning, Vettel is a last start all the way Canberra winner and is likely to find the conditions to take up the running once again.
The racing on Sunday kicks off at 11.55am.
