As such, the hunt will soon be on at Tarago Truffles, with owner-managers Cr Denzil and Anne Sturgiss gearing up for another season.
“Tarago Truffles is very excited to be once again part of the Canberra Region Truffle Festival. This year the festival is celebrating its 10th year of promoting that fabulous fungi – the black winter truffle,” Mrs Sturgiss said.
“The special experience that we offer at Tarago Truffles includes hunting for truffles with the dogs and handlers, experiencing some truffle tastings and learning all about growing and preparing the truffle for market.”
The hunts will generally run between 10.30am and 1.30pm, giving visitors the opportunity to further explore the region.
“Restaurants, cafes, bars and wineries are already planning their menus to showcase the truffle flavours and aromas of their special culinary creations,” Mrs Sturgiss said.
The festival features special ticketed events including The Blessing of the Truffle Dogs held at Tarago Truffles on Sunday, June 17.
“What began as a small Tarago community event is now a festival feature” Mrs Sturgiss said.
The Blessing is led by Professor Tom Frame of the Mulwaree Anglican Parish. The event will include the blessing of the dogs, and a short hunt, followed by a sit down lunch featuring truffle dishes prepared by Travis and Stefanie of Woodbrook.
Bookings for the Blessing of the dogs are essential and can be made via the Festival website atwww.trufflefestival.com.au
