Members of the gallery could be seen on Thursday hunched over public art pieces and key sites in town, laying out colourful wool.
Publicity officer Carolyn Greig said ‘yarn bombing’ has become a global phenomenon over the last few years with many installations popping up in various locations.
“It is a way of encouraging people to look at things they may not have noticed before at the same time as brightening up some public art and publicising art exhibitions,” she said.
“The Goulburn Mulwaree Council are fully supportive of this display and we are hopeful, if it is well received, this will become an annual happening each June to coincide with our wool exhibition and to brighten up the first month of Winter.”
The gallery will exhibit collections of handmade wool and wool felt on June 3 until June 24.
Knitting and crocheting will also be run on the opening day as part of World Wide Knit (and crochet) in Public Day between 10am and 4pm.
The gallery is located on Blackshaw Road from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10am and 4pm.
