The upgrade, including upstairs seating, will bring essential new life into this heritage building and will help to protect it.
I doubt Ms Hornibrook’s suggestion staff who have left the Goulburn Mulwaree Council were attempting to overcome concerns about the performing arts centre.
I know of senior staff who have left who were strong supporters of the project.
If properly resourced, a new performing arts centre will be a tremendous asset, offering diverse entertainment in a community flooded with grog shops and under-nourished in the arts.
I’m sure Ms Hornibrook remembers the overwhelming support at a public meeting last year for a performing arts centre in the old town hall.
I believe performing arts cause us to live longer and ward off stress-related illness. Singing and dancing and storytelling make us laugh and smile and fill us with joy and hope. That’s why we should embrace a performing arts centre in the heart of Goulburn.
