In the 2018/19 budget it will allocate half the cost of constructing a new security fence between the centre and the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) controlled land behind. The amount will be a maximum $15,000. 

In a report to councillors at last week’s meeting, corporate services director Brendan Hollands said signifcant damage had been done to the fence in recent months.

“(It) has been cut in a number of places to enable teenagers to access the railway land. A number of garbage bins, that have been used to climb the fence, have also been damaged or destroyed,” he wrote.

“There has been an increasing amount of antisocial behaviour taking place in the vicinity with a number of fires lit. This behaviour is more prevalent during school holidays.”

Mr Hollands said Visitors Centre staff who accessed the facility through the rear door were becoming increasingly concerned about their safety.

The fence, similar to that around schools, is estimated to cost $30,000 and will be half-funded by ARTC.

The Post reported on Sunday that intruders had gained entry to the Goulburn Men’s Shed off Blackshaw Road, via railway land. Members said they cut cyclone fencing and broke into the shed, stealing bikes and equipment, ransacking cupboards and spraying fire extinguisher powder all through the interior.
