One of them, lying north of the main road at North Goulburn, would be renamed Lawford Lane after a pioneering family in the area. Residents suggested the name at council consultation.
The session was called in April to give residents more background on the need for the road’s renaming.
The council had originally suggested it be called Bissaker Road.
But land and property business manager Ken Wheeldon said most residents wanted it named after the Lawford family, who ran a dairy and had a milk run in Goulburn. They delivered milk by horse and cart.
Since 1911 the family had occupied the a home in the area, which was built in 1872.
“We feel that the new name should have relevance to the area, should reflect the rural setting of the vicinity and acknowledge a farming family that contributed to the Goulburn community and economy for several decades,” their submission stated.
The council will write to the three property owners in the street, advising them of the change and giving 28 days to lodge objections.
The other street, south of the main road would be renamed Day Street. The council had originally suggested Crundwell Street, given it was an extension of this thoroughfare. Property owners here will also be notified.
Residents, property and business owners and Australia Post will have 28 days to supply feedback.
The changes must then be gazetted by the Geographical Names Board.
