Brigade news
After a few callouts over the past few weeks, the Brigade is again reminding residents that it is imperative that you ring the Yass Fire Control Office (Monday-Friday, business hours, 6226 3100) to get your name listed if you wish to do a hazard reduction or burn that pile of leaves or windrows. You also then need to advise your neighbours and send a text message to our duty phone (0438 429 070) and also look at the weather conditions prior to lighting. If, in our opinion, it is warranted, we will put out your fire and, if necessary, issue a fine notice.
A basic firefighter course was conducted at Towrang Fire Station during May, with a few new local residents and participants from other brigades. A huge thank you to all who assisted in the presentation, catering and organisation. A further course is being organised for November. If you are interested in attending, please drop by the Towrang Fire Station on a Tuesday night after 7pm for an application form.
The Brigade has been out and about recently - helping at the gates at the Goulburn Show, assisting at the Goulburn North Public School Fireworks, catering at the Goulburn Kennel Club Agility, Jumping and Games Trial at the Showground, helping out at the Goulburn Rodeo - and more to come over the next few months. We are always looking for assistance for these events. If you would like to help, please send an email to towrangbrigade@gmail.com and we will send you some information.
A newsletter has been printed and is being delivered over the next couple of days – electronically, by mail and letterbox delivery. The newsletter has a list of contact details, information and a donation form attached. Your donation to the brigade is very much appreciated as it allows us to continue operating with our day-to-day expenses, such as welfare, maintenance, telephone.
Towrang Brigade Fire Station will be open for a weekend in September during the NSW RFS Annual Get Ready Weekend. The station will be open for inspection and residents can come along and get valuable information on property preparation, becoming a volunteer firefighter and the types of training courses on offer. Further details will be issued in the next few weeks.
