Staff have already commenced the installation of 11 seats and three picnic tables along stage one of the Walkway, which runs from Marsden Weir to Kenmore Street. Two of these seats were generously donated by the Garden Argyle Garden Club.
Mayor Bob Kirk said the equipment’s installation was timely and would be well utilised.
“Even in winter the river walkway continues to be popular, especially throughout the weekend. The equipment will mean the space is friendlier to families and will offer seats for a break,” he said.
Council’s operations team has also been undertaking extensive vegetation clean-up work at the walkway, focusing on improving access and the appearance of the river corridor.
“These river rehabilitation works are important to maintain the health of the Wollondilly River, as well as making the space more inviting for the community,” Cr Kirk said.
The recent completion of the Gibson Street pedestrian bridge means the walkway is now even more accessible to those on the northern side. Garden banks will be planted in the coming weeks to make the space more attractive.
Installation of the seats and picnic tables is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
