200th ANNIVERSARY
A meeting of the newly formed Back to Taralga Steering Committee took place on Sunday at the Argyle Inn.
Every organisation seems enthusiastic and desiring to contribute to the 200th anniversary in 2019.
It was said Max Keith would give a plaque to mark the spot where the party of explorers, led by Charles Throsby first camped. The party was searching for a way to Bathurst.
Planning is underway to celebrate this significant event with a street parade, entertainment and many other attractions to be held over the long weekend in October 2019.
The steering committee will meet every month to put together a fitting celebration.
GARDEN CLUB NEWS
Around 30 guests enjoyed delicious home-cooked morning tea and lunch at the Garden Club meeting last Thursday at the Club, when June Stockel displayed her beautiful linen pieces.
June attended the Chelsea Flower Show again in May and brought along video of the highlights of the show, which she accompanied with witty comments.
The pictures of flowers and gardens were found to be very informative and it was an entertaining morning that passed quickly.
The next meeting will be Christmas in July on Thursday, July 12.
Members are reminded to bring a small gift to the value of $5-10 to put under the Christmas Tree.
Names must be in by July 6. A reminder is also given for the two-night trip to Griffith – names and a deposit are due on or before July 12.

JOHN FLANAGAN
Flanagan is not a name now known in the district. It would be interesting to know if any of John’s descendants still live here.
As well as answering questions the Historical Society sometimes leaves us with riddles.
John Flanagan (1809-1891) came to Australia in 1831. In 1841 John married the widow Ann McNeil, (1820-1881).
John seems to have moved a few times but obviously was at Yalbraith where Flanagans Creek was known.
John later had a block of land on the Jerrong Road.
The couple had ten children: Mary Jane (1842-1885) married Mark Patterson; Martha Matilda (1844-1919) married Joseph Croke; Sarah Ann (1846-1883) married Hugh Lord; Isabella Elizabeth (1848-1911) married Thomas Patterson; James (1848-1929) married Isabella Redman; Margaret (1850-) married William Graham; Elizabeth Phoebe (1853-1928) married Daniel McAlister; John (1854-1933) married Elizabeth Oliver; Robert(1856-1928) married Susannah Withers; Frances Amelia (1859-1936) married George Patterson.
