Coach Adam Kyle said that it was a big relief to have finally shaken the run of poor form and bad luck which had ridden the majority of Goulburn’s season.
“It was [a relief], to be honest,” Kyle said.
“We knew a win was coming, we feel like we’ve been putting in the hard work. While the results might not have shown that, the boys really have been putting in some tough work watching video, on the training field, and in games.
“It was nice to get a little bit of reward for the hard work, and in pretty terrible conditions we really put one of our best performances of the season together.”
One of the keys for the Bulldogs was to reverse the trend that had developed of conceding the first points to the opposition.
“Funnily enough, what happened to us last week [against the Yass Magpies] happened to Sharks this week,” Kyle said.
“We got on the front foot straight away off the kickoff and scored almost on the first set, almost a mimic of what happened the week before against Yass.”
The Sharks, who are ranked last and have not won a single match this year, were unable to bridge the gap in the score despite a strong second half response.
The Goulburn side will now be hoping to continue this good form on the coming weekend when they take on second-last ranked Gungahlin Bulls, who have had a similar season to the Bulldogs in that bad luck and inexperience have played strong roles in the results.
However, despite a 3-6 season record, Kyle is confident that his side can turn the year around and even make the finals.
“I would like to think that win from the weekend has kickstarted our season.
“We’re still not out of finals contention. By no means have we talked about planning for next year or anything like that
“We’ve got a job to do this season and we’re certainly looking forward to trying to finish as high on the table as we can.”
The Bulldogs will play the Gungahlin Bulls at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval at 3:00pm on Saturday June 23.
