Inducting the 2018-19 new board members was Lion’s Cabinet Secretary John Flarrety from the Goulburn City Club. He told the gathering that Marulan was only a small club and they did not have the opportunities that clubs in larger towns had to raise money and grow their membership.
For such a small club to record 4000 hours of service for the year and to donate over $36,000 to international and local Lions foundations as well as local causes is a tremendous effort, Mr Flarrety said.
“Their fundraising for the Tathra Bushfire Appeal was the largest for any club in the region totalling over $10,000.
“Lions international is recognised by the United Nations as the best Non Government Organisation (NGO) in the world.”
Outgoing president Maureen Eddy listed the causes to which the club donated funds in her report some of the causes included the Zone picnic, Lions Prostate Cancer, DG books and three scholarships to local schools, Daffodil Day, Biggest Morning Tea, Dementia Unit in Goulburn, Planet Ark, RSPCA, Can Assist, Swags for the Homeless. Marulan Kite Festival, Seniors Christmas Party, Support cancer survivor, Bushfire Brigade, the Tathra Bushfire Appeal, Cuddle Cot Appeal for Goulburn Hospital and Fijian family home build. They also donated money to numerous Lions Foundations including Save Sight, Red Kidney Bus, Hearing Dogs, Spinal Cord Foundation, and Drug Awareness.
Mr Flarrety said that a club is only as good as its leader and Maureen Eddy had done a tremendous job during her term in office. He presented Maureen Eddy and Marjorie Izzard with Gold Centenary Awards and Maureen an Appreciation Award for their service and leadership.
Maureen Skipper was awarded a Spinal Cord Foundation Award. The club’s auditor Dennis Bell and Spiro Grech were also among those who received appreciation awards for services to the Lions Club.
