Today, as I do most mornings, I went for a walk by the Wollondilly River. When I was near Gibson Street, three trucks came down to do some concreting work on that project.
They were from ‘South Sydney Concrete’. Why is local work being given to a Sydney company?
The voters of Goulburn Mulwaree deserve an explanation. There is enough people unemployed without us giving work away.
Is this company cheaper then local companies? If so, local companies should be told of the fact and see if they can lower their price. I would love to hear from a local concreting company.
I also saw them doing street footpaths before in the same area.
Why is the council doing what is seen as afterthought work, having heavy machinery cracking up the concrete they laid a few weeks before etc.
Plan the project. Let the voters of Goulburn see it and add their ideas, make a decision and finish the job.
Design-wise, this project is one of the worst I have ever seen. To let storm water go under the footpath they dug big holes to put in pipes, then filled them with big blue metal stones, and now we have (A) very ugly spots, (B) public safety put aside, and (C) fencing them will make them look even worse.
Instead of using big 12-inch or bigger pipes, why not use smaller pipes and lay four to six, depending on how much water is going through.
Also – that ugly footbridge across the river to join Gibson Street. Solution: a single span concrete pedestrian bridge. It would have joined the road easier and higher so when river is flooded it does not affect the people who use the bridge as a crossing daily.
Things do not improve because we the voters are willing to just accept whatever is dished out and that is not good enough.
But, Goulburn voters, we should stop complaining about bad management while we are responsible as to who is voted in. Please, voters, look at the person you are voting for.
Thank you for printing this letter as it might be the last one as I am sick of having to complain and nothing changes.
