Mayoral Minute: Further funding flows

Earlier this week I was pleased to join local Member for Hume Angus Taylor for two positive announcements within the Building Better Regions Fund in which Goulburn received close to $1.4 million for two community recreational projects.

$937,147 will go towards Stage 2 of the Wollondilly River Walkway. This stage will include 1.5km of shared pathway which will link Kenmore Street with Tarlo Street. A feature of Stage 2 will be the cantilever bridge around the rock face at Joshua Street that people will be add a real point of difference for our walkway.

$415,051 will be invested in a new pavilion at Seiffert Oval, which comes as part of a larger project that will also see significant lighting upgrades undertaken. The new pavilion will mean a far better experience for users of Seiffert Oval with new home and away change rooms, an officials change room, male and female toilets, a kitchenette and a multifunction area.

The continuing success with our grant applications is fantastic news for our region and something we hope to continue with the Aquatic Centre redevelopment which will be our next focus.

I believe this success is the result of community involvement in these projects during the formation stage. Working Groups with hard working community members were involved in the planning and design process for many projects such as Seiffert Oval, the Performing Arts Centre and the Aquatic Centre and this sets the council up well to apply for grants. I am looking forward to seeing work get underway at Seiffert Oval and on Stage 2 of the River Walkway.
