Goulburn Connect, a monthly networking event averaging about 40 local businesses, has now been running for five months and already, it has seen a number of connections formed between local businesses.
Goulburn Connect is a relaxed networking event, where informal chats with local businesses can lead to many opportunities and ways to work together.
Utilitycap is a sustainability consultancy business based in Goulburn that helps organisations achieve maximum energy and resource efficiencies.
Warren Murray from Utilitycap (previously Intelligent Metering Australia) came along to Goulburn Connect for the first time with few expectations.
“I was just hoping to establish a few more local connections… A lot of my work is in the major cities,” he said.
However, by the end of the night, he had established two solid connections with other local businesses.
A conversation with Tanya Creer from Southern Tablelands Media saw Warren find the perfect local business to assist him with marketing material, including a new website.
Whilst Warren didn’t go to Goulburn Connect seeking someone who could help him develop a new website, Warren describes the timing as “perfect”.
With Tanya’s help, Warren is about to launch his new website along with his new business name.
Warren also made a connection with Phil Joyce, from Goulburn Solar. “Part of the solution in identifying energy savings opportunities lies with solar and battery storage systems,” he said.
“My discussion with Phil showed me that Goulburn Solar are right on the ball with that. We realised we share similar types of clients and so we have lined up an informal partnership, which I’m sure will lead to a deeper connection.”
It is relationships and connections like this that emphasise the importance and value of networking events, like Goulburn Connect.
“You never know what you might find there,” he said. “And listening to the one-minute pitches from local businesses was very inspiring.”
The next Goulburn Connect will be held on August 7 at The Collective from 5.30pm. All businesses are welcome and encouraged to come along.
- Goulburn Connect is supported by RDA Southern Inland, Goulburn Chamber of Commerce, AusIndustry, CBRIN (Canberra Innovation Network), The Collective, Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Workspace 2580.
