The outspoken and humorous larrikin has announced his Almost Awesome tour dates in NSW, which include the Goulburn Workers Club on Sunday September 16 from 7pm. 

If a drift from the norm in which just about anything goes is what you’re after,  think unorthodox jokes and a few of Wilson’s life tales told by song, then this is your show.

This year, Wilson will be joined by a singer-songwriter comedienne of similar stylings, Jenny Talia, returning to her home turf, born in Australia but now living in the US.

Also returning to familiar lands was Wilson when he arrives in Goulburn. “My Dad’s mum, my Nanna, is from Goulburn. I remember a couple of times as a kid we actually went to Goulburn to visit her and how cold it was. We used to sleep on the veranda and could see the searchlight up on the War Memorial hill; that was awesome. We’d have the old fire going, making toast; the smell of toast still reminds me of Goulburn.”

In terms of what to expect at his show in Goulburn, Wilson confirmed he would play fan favourite songs such as D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F, Dick’taphone, I Knew the Bride (When She Used to be a Mole) and Living Next Door to Alan.

The rest is largely left unplanned, with Wilson saying he largely goes ‘off the cuff’. That being said, it would probably be best to advise that this is a show for adults.

So, in an age of political correctness, just how does Wilson get away with breaking modern convention?

In his words, “It’s just my view of the world. To me, it’s like someone’s embedded a new religion called political correctness; we’ve all got to think in the same way and we’re not allowed to do this or that, because it’s a sin and it offends other people. 

“If people don’t like what I do, stay away from it. I don’t go to church because I don’t like it.”

While many are familiar with Wilson’s humour, they might not know how his path to entertainment began.

Always the jokester of his friends, he started out by recording songs on cassette tapes – for those who remember what those were – based on his experiences working in the mines in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

Today he still takes his day-to-day life ‘happenings’, sharing his outlook and finding humour when on stage.

His first tape, Your Average Australian Yobbo, came about in early 1980 and went on to sell tens of thousands. Jump forward to now, and Kevin Bloody Wilson is a well known Australian name.

His promotional material says “It is hard to believe that it was only 30 or so years ago that he was getting arrested for performing his politically incorrect songs in public.”

Having been privy to Wilson’s humour, however, we’re not so sure it is hard to believe. We’ll leave you to decide.
