Breaking the record for the largest group to donate blood at the Goulburn Donor Centre, 21 players and club members arrived in Goulburn, ready to give back.
This is not the first year the team has donated blood as a group, but this year was slightly different.
President Ally Jaffrey was recently diagnosed with Myelofibrosis, which affects the production of red blood cells. She has required blood transfusions due to the severe anemia.
Ms Jaffrey said this was one of many acts of kindness by the club referring to a recent trip to Fiji, assisting the Upper Lachlan Foundation and raising $20,000 during the Motor Neuron Disease (MND) charity game.
“I’m very proud of them and what they’ve done for the community,” she said.
“I’m very proud to be involved with a team that’s so community orientated, that’s what the Crookwell Rugby Club is about, it’s not all about football.”
She said news of her diagnosis spurred more members to join the cause.
“They learnt that making a blood donation can save three lives, a lot was learnt,” she said.
“We encourage anyone who can give blood to do so and to learn more about the bone marrow donor registry.”
The team will head back to the blood bank at the end of the season.
