GP: What does this nomination mean to you and your business?
MS: Our nomination in the category of Social Enterprise was very welcome. It is great to be recognised as a unique community-focused business in the region. It reinforces what we are doing is the right thing to do.
Our nominations for Excellence in Innovation for The Collective, directly links to the banks purpose and mission of making it better off tomorrow, than it is today. The Collective is a destination that supports local business, community and events with discounted rates for start-up business and apprentices and students. There are hot desks and a collaborative setup which offers support to businesses in our region.
After all, we live in the local business region and want to support it and see it grow. The Collective and everything we do there is a logical step to supporting our community.
GP: How many staff members do you have and what do they do?
MS: In Goulburn we have five staff. A destination manager, Kayla, looks after banking and management of The Collective and the co-work space. There are four banking staff who are the lenders and business bankers. All our staff are expected to be committed to corporate volunteering.
GP: What is the secret to your success?
MS: At BDCU our success is due to our people and our staff.
GP: What is something not many people would know about your business or you think readers would be interested to know?
MS: We are 100 per cent involved in community work in some way. Last year in their own time, through corporate volunteering, our staff racked up 5546 hours in community support.
