Goulburn Post spoke to owner and principal physiotherapist Karen Waters and office manager Corrine McElligott about their nominations.
Nominated for: Business Leader (Karen Waters), Excellence in Customer Service (Corrine McElligott)
GP: How long has your business been operating?
KW: Nine years.
GP: What is the purpose of your business?
KW: The provision of physiotherapy services.
GP: What does this nomination mean to you and your business?
KW: Being in the award category for Business Leader is a great opportunity to be recognised for the sustained and progressive effort which I have applied to being a small business leader over the past nine years. It’s an opportunity to highlight that with preservation and determination, continued personal and professional growth and development you can grow, manage and sustain a small business in a challenging and changing economical and social business environment.
CM: A great deal – the quality of the overall physiotherapy client experience relies heavily on my position, as it is the front line for the organisation. My role provides the initial and final contact with the patients, as well as important business engagement with other local businesses, suppliers and corporate clients, and as such is critical in providing a positive image for Goulburn Physiotherapy Centre. To be nominated for this award is reassurance that I am doing the best I can every day in a job and position that I love.
GP: How many staff members do you have and what do they do?
KW: Nine staff – they are physiotherapists, a massage therapist, office manager and administrative support.
GP: What is the secret to your success?
KW: A true passion for what you do and the drive to succeed. A wonderful family and support network and a dedicated team of staff whom are passionate about their jobs as well as understand and work in line with the core business values.

CM: Treating people the way I would like to be treated and understanding the impact that great customer service can have on a small business. Always displaying all the great core business values that Goulburn Physiotherapy has including compassion, empathy, and patience, in a warm and helpful manner while simultaneously building rapport. Also I think Karen’s leadership ensures all members of the Goulburn Phsyio Family are having fun in their job and want to be there every day.
GP: What is something not many people would know about your business or you think readers would be interested to know?
KW: That a physiotherapy degree does not include the study of business management and to have set up and sustained such a successful business has taken a lot of personal investment, determination and learning of new skills and knowledge.
