Iris Roberts, Judith Roper and Jenny Aubrey were visited by the Welfare ladies and get well cards were sent to Margaret Thompson and Leila Dunne.
Our guest for the day was David Penalver, who spoke about the war in Vietnam, specifically the human side and how it affected everyone involved. He discussed three issues – Why were we involved? What did we do there? What was the outcome? There was some discussion from our members on this controversial subject but it was very informative and interesting. David also talked about the Battle of Long Tan, specifically the gallantry and heroism of the soldiers involved in the Battle. The Battle of Long Tan will be remembered on Saturday August 18 in Belmore Park.
A group of about eight ladies enjoyed lunch at the Railway Hotel, Sloane Street, Goulburn for our July social day. Our next outing will be a trip to the Goulburn Cinema on Thursday August 16, 10.30am, then lunch. If you wish to attend please contact Margaret Gooch.
Our next luncheon will be our Birthday Lunch with the theme “Flower Power” at the Goulburn Soldiers Club on Thursday September 6. Dress ‘hippy, flowery, 70s fashions’ – anything you wish really! There will also be a trading table and the lunch is $24. If attending please notify Margaret Gooch by 7pm the Monday prior to the luncheon on 4822 1859.
