At the moment we have three really exciting tenders being advertised: construction of the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, the new Seiffert Oval sports pavilion, and design and construction of a brand new Rocky Hill Museum.
The three undertakings are quite unique in that one will cater to the arts and cultural space, one to our sporting fraternity and the other to the history of the city.
The work began back in 2015/16 when the ideas were further developed through community working parties before being placed into our forward budgets. It is through the combined effort of council and community members that we achieve the best outcomes and I am sure we are all looking forward to seeing work underway on each of these projects.
Councillors return to the couch
Goulburn Mulwaree councillors will return to the couch in the Civic Centre, Goulburn Square and Goulburn Marketplace during the first week of September.
The initiative returns after a short hiatus, with councillors keen to engage face-to-face with community members who would not normally take an interest in council business.
The sessions will be run in an informal matter with the community invited to drop-in at a time that suits to have a chat.
Councillors will be in the Civic Centre foyer from 4-5:30pm on Tuesday, September 4. On Thursday, September 6, councillors will be at the Goulburn Marketplace from 11am-2pm and in Goulburn Square from 4-7pm.
Asbestos disposal fee reduced
I am pleased to inform you that it will now be cheaper to dispose of asbestos at the Goulburn Waste Management Centre after councillors resolved to reduce the associated fees at this week’s council meeting.
The tonnage rate for bonded asbestos disposal has now been reduced to in line with the general waste fee, being $224/tonne with a minimum load of $22 for local residents. This would allow residents to dispose of up to 100kg of asbestos with any amounts beyond this being charged at the weighed rate.
All asbestos accepted at Goulburn Waste Management Centre would continue to need to be correctly wrapped and transported as required by legislation. Council accepts bonded asbestos only and waste such as asbestos contaminated soil and friable asbestos is diverted to alternate facilities.
