Having long been known as Goulburn’s Barber Shop, the premises was gutted and remodelled over 11 frantic days from August 9 to 20.
If you walk in now you’ll notice “it’s had a 360 deg change” says Michael Gerakios.
It also has a new name, Mick's on Auburn, but some aspects like the people are still familiar.
Michael, wife Maria, and team members Rachel and Sarah are all still involved, plus Melissa and Sophia have recently joined the roster.
To see progress shots of the refit you can look back through their posts here:
To acknowledge all the effort put in Michael wanted to say "A big thank you to all the tradies. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be where I am in 11 days."
They also want to "Thank everybody who took a part in this from staff and family and friends to clients who understood us being shut, and we want to look after everybody now. They won't be disappointed,” Michael added.
The design of the refit “has gone a modern way,” and along with that they’re “moving with the times by allowing people to book.” It was previously just walk-in for everybody, but making an appointment saves you waiting and you can book a particular person.
“You’re paying for that service, that time you're sitting in that chair,” Michael says.
BACKGROUND STORY
Hairdressing is in the family for Michael.
“My Mother was a hairdresser” and his daughter Sophia is too. He admits it wasn’t his first choice of trade, but “I found it natural.”
As a child “We moved to Goulburn in '74 and I did all my schooling in Goulburn,” Michael says.
Reopened at the beginning of this week, the shop has been in place for 18 years.
“We’re not just a barber anymore, we’re a barber, salon and colour bar. People can still walk in off the street and get a haircut, but you need to make an appointment for a colour.”
The trading hours have also been extended, so you can go in from 8am most days as well as Saturday mornings.
“We needed to change with the times. Not everyone works Monday to Friday.”
Along with professional service, they also use a lot of Nak products, an Australian company.
Additionally, you may also appreciate the items that were made by Proraso, an Italian brand of products for men's grooming such as creams, beard balms and soaps.
