Whenever a new franchise opens there are always two parties involved.
First there are the prospective franchisees, who identify the type of business they would like to start in the local community.
The other is the franchise group themselves, who often have people doing constant research to create a list of potential locations that they believe would suit the particular business model.
Gary Powell, national network development manager, described this as the process when it came to the creation of a new Sandwich Chefs deli-carvery which is opening today in Goulburn Square.
Goulburn “has a great shopping centre and we’re very excited to be going in there,” he said in the lead-up to the grand opening.

He explained that there are 58 stores nationally, and that Goulburn is at the top of a list of eight new sites being added to their growing network.
Mr Powell also pointed out that the franchisees, Melissa and Bob Brown, have been Goulburn area locals for 20 years and their kids have grown up here.
“Bob has been quite successful in his own business,” Mr Powell said, “and Melissa had an ambition to open her own business,” specifically a new food outlet.
“She shopped around, and looked at all the different things, and what was missing, and approached us,” he continued.
“We had already identified Goulburn Square as having potential for us and we had a site available. Melissa responded to that and since then she has undertaken her training in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne,” to understand how various other Sandwich Chefs sites operate.
Additionally, “She’s pretty excited that we’ve hired quite a few locals,” and Sandwich Chefs sent a team in from head office “predominantly to support Melissa and Bob in their new venture and also to train the new staff.”
Gary encourages you to go into Goulburn Square and get to know Melissa, Bob and the team if you don’t know them already, and he also mentioned that they are quite open to the idea of being approached by various local community groups and sporting clubs.
If you’re wondering what to try there, Mr Powell says their signature product is the roast pork roll with apple sauce and gravy.
“Our other amazing dish, obviously we have the carvery there, our roast meals are extremely popular as well.” He also says “Our meats are fantastic. Add to that pastry products, our salads, a juice bar and excellent coffee.”
Based on their experience at the other sites he says “People love our product” and “We get a loyal following.” As for Goulburn, “We think we’re going to be pretty successful here and we’re very excited,” he concluded.
