Changed traffic conditions will be in place on Forbes Street and Bungonia Road in preparation for work starting on the new bridge and road approaches.
A contractor for Roads and Maritime Services will carry out the work, which includes installing concrete barriers along Bungonia Road and Forbes Street between Memorial Road and Glenelg Street. This will allow the start of earthworks for construction of the new road alignments and approaches to the new bridge.
Work will be carried out at the site between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday from Monday, September 17 until completion of the new bridge and road approaches in mid-2019. Some Saturday work may also be required between 8am and 1pm.
Temporary lane closures, traffic control and a reduced 40km/h speed limit will be in place during working hours. Impacts to traffic on Forbes Street and Bungonia Road will be kept to a minimum and access will be maintained at all times, the RMS advises.
“Motorists are reminded some sections of Memorial Road and Long Street have load limit restrictions and are unsuitable for heavy vehicles,” a spokesman said.
