I was honoured to be elected as mayor of Goulburn Mulwaree for a second term, while Cr Peter Walker was elected deputy mayor. Firstly, I would like to thank the outgoing deputy mayor Cr Alfie Walker, who has served for the past two years and has done a wonderful job. I know he will continue to contribute much as a hard working councillor for the next two years.
Congratulations must also go to Cr Peter Walker who has been elected deputy mayor and who I am sure will do a great job – I look forward to working closely with Peter.
However, the reality of the council is that we must continue to work together as a team of nine if we are to achieve the best outcomes for Goulburn Mulwaree.
I am proud to say that I lead a council that is cohesive, and I believe we are achieving a lot within this region. I look forward to an exciting two years ahead for Goulburn Mulwaree.
Treatment Plant opening
On Friday this week we will welcome the Hon Sussan Ley MP (assistant minister for regional development and territories) and our local member the Hon Angus Taylor MP to officially open the new Waste Water Treatment Plant.
This important infrastructure project is one of the largest ever undertaken in Goulburn Mulwaree and will cater for future population growth as well as exceeding modern day environmental standards. It will also enable us to provide a reuse product of potable quality for irrigation on sporting fields and parklands throughout the area.
Upgrade of the plant was made possible through a federal government grant of $10 million, while the council contributed $22m towards the project.
Events this weekend
Two major events are on in our region this Sunday, being the Goulburn Community Bike Ride and the Marulan Kite Festival.
The community bike ride will kick off from Carr Confoy Oval at 10:30am. Join the 5km escorted family ride as it heads around the golf course and the wetlands. We have over $2000 in prizes to give away on the day, including three new bikes.
The Marulan Kite Festival is also on, with a huge day planned for the whole family – running from 9am until 3pm. There are competitions, the kite parade, entertainment market stalls and more, so why not head out to Marulan for the day!
