The Taralga man was elected Mayor unopposed at Thursday night’s council meeting.
Cr John Searl will take up the deputy’s role for the next year. He beat off Cr Pam Kensit.
Cr Stafford was elected to the council in September, 2016, became deputy mayor the same year and re-elected to the position in September, 2017. He has also been Upper Lachlan Shire’s delegate on various Section 355 committees, as well its representative or delegate on numerous non-council committees.
Meantime, Cr Searl, from Dalton, has been a councillor for two consecutive terms, having first been elected in 2012. He also has represented the council on various committees which span the Shire’s towns and villages.
General manager John Bell congratulated the duo on their election.
“Cr Stafford and Cr Searl will no doubt be a strong leadership team who will bring fresh ideas and perspectives to their respective roles,” he said.
“On behalf of council staff I would like to congratulate them on their election and look forward to working with them to meet the needs and expectations of the local community.
“I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of outgoing Mayor Brian McCormack OAM, who held the position since September 2016.”
