The Lightning Bolt II convoy is a national awareness campaign involving a convoy comprising of first responder and military vehicles including a Linfox semi-trailer with an awareness message that anyone can be affected by PTSD.
The vehicles were escorted into town by members of the Southern Tablelands chapter of the Veterans Motorcycle Club which supports former and serving military personnel and their families and provides a social outlet for them.
The Lightning Bolt Convoy which also has the capacity to offer counselling is spreading the message that post traumatic stress, which is prevalent in people who have served in the military is not an exclusively war service related condition.
It reaches further than the emergency service personnel too. In fact anyone ant any time can suffer from PTSD.
The play Shell Shock as its name suggests is about a soldier’s battle with PTSD. After a long military career Tommy’s observations on the absurdities of everyday life on civvy street are frequently comic, sometimes violent, but always poignant. Nothing is safe…. a post office queue, a trip to Ikea and a Nintendo Wii all feel the force of Tommy’s outraged frustration. The show starts at 7pm, tonight Sunday October 7 at the Goulburn Workers Club and costs just $5 per person.
