The Kiss Goodbye to MS Polo Day was a fundraising event honouring fellow resident and polo enthusiast, Robert Bell, and his brave battle with multiple sclerosis (MS). The Goulburn side of  Sinclair Bell, Henry Bell and  Ed Archibald. took on  Henry Jones, Henry Fisher and Wallace Ashton in a modified form of the normally  four player a side competition registered as Polo 3’s by Wal Ashton.

 The game, which followed  a car versus polo pony competition and a picnic lunch was played in six four and a half minute chukkas. Instead of playing with a hard plastic ball the Polo 3’s ball is an  softer slightly larger and lighter ball, which safely allows spectators to get closer to the action.

 In the first chukka Goulburn scored twice. In the second Chukka the the Health Hub side closed the gap to  two goals to one. 

Henry Jones and Henry Fisher with some great defending by Wal Ashton took the third to three goals to for the Health Hub. The fourth chukka was dominated by by the Goulburn side with Sinclair Bell and Henry Bell  clearing the ball and taking their ponies on some quick dashes down the field to slot in two goals to Health Hub’s one.  At the end of the fourth the game was locked at four goals each. In this form of polo with a small field about the size of a soccer field there is no room on the field for the umpire. so like a tennis umpire they are positioned mid way down the sideline in an elevated position.

 In the third quarter it seemed that the Goulburn side who had recently taken part in the race across Mongolia where playing to their strengths. Goulburn was ahead five goals to four going into the final chukka.

With some dominant mid field play, good passing and strong defence by Ed Archibald Goulburn Ride for a Cure brought the final score to 8 : 4.
