Incredibly, he is embarking on a crusade of more than 300km from Parliament House to Sydney CBD in an attempt to raise awareness of mental health issues across Australia.
With the aid of two walking sticks, Alan is a highly respected Salvation Army figure in the world and the Founder of Suicide Prevention Australia.
He will pass many small towns and will be at Belmore Park at 12.30pm on Wednesday October 25.
“Those impacted by suicide are up to eight times more likely to take their own lives than the general population,” said Mr Staines said.
“With each suicide, there are at least 135 people directly impacted as a result.”
Alan’s “Walk for Life” is looking for communities in the nation to help by providing personal, communications and funding support.
By combining, the number of suicides will reduce in this country.
The walk started at the Forecourt of Parliament House on Thursday, October 18 and will end in Sydney on Friday, November 16.
