Students from the school have been selected to be part of the popular Specfest and Schools Spectacular events in Sydney.
School bands Small Town Afro and M Funk will be performing at Specfest on November 23, while Maddy Bayliss is dancing in the Schools Spectacular event in an ensemble.
Mulwaree High music teacher John Russell said Specfest would take place outside the Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park in the lead-up to the Schools Spectacular performance.
“This is a significant achievement, as only the best performers from across the state are chosen to feature individually in the event,” Mr Russell said.
“Specfest is the festival that happens outside and it is a really good spot to have because they will get all the passing traffic of audience members.
“It is like a carnival-type atmosphere.”
“M Funk is years 8 and 9 kids, whereas Small Town Afro has a few seniors like Micky Dunne and Nathan Tunstall.
“They got together in light of the Blues Festival.
“They put together a set and played at that and stayed together and they have done a few things now.
“For Specfest, there are only about 10 groups across the state that got a run.
“It is like state representation if you compare it to sport.
“Maddy Bayliss is one of the featured artists in the big show and she features quite heavily throughout the show.
“I am immensely proud of them for their achievements.”
Mr Russell came from a performing arts high school, Kooringal, in Wagga Wagga and says the talent at Mulwaree is on par with those students.
And, in some cases, they exceed them, he said.
“The students here also really appreciate the opportunities afforded to them,” he said.
Other schools from the Southern Inlands chosen to participate in the entertainment extravaganza are:
- Karabar High
- Crookwell Public
- Berinda Public
- Yass High, and

The Schools Spectacular is an outstanding showcase of the talent in NSW public schools.
In terms of sheer size, scale and scope, Schools Spectacular is unequalled in the world with a 2700-strong choir, 2300 diverse dancers, an 80-piece symphony orchestra, a world-class stage band and a huge number of outstanding solo performers.
Schools Spectacular creative director Sonja Sjolander said the Southern Inlands performers at this year’s event would live up to its theme: The Greatest.
See the televised Schools Spectacular on December 8, 7pm, on Channel 7 (Prime7).
