That’s what Bourke Street Health Service (BSHS) senior nurse manager John Gale is relying on in the lead-up to a fundraising night at the Goulburn Club on Saturday, December 1.

Chris Gale was busy kitting up her brother and co-conspirator, Phoenix Fundraising Committee president Jim Stevenson on Wednesday.

The dueling duo were out in force promoting the fundraiser, a Scottish Ceilidh night, complete with dancing and perhaps the odd dram of Scotch.

“A lot of us don’t know what it is but we’ll turn up anyway and have a good time,” Mr Stevenson quipped.

Bundanoon’s Brigadoon is supporting the fundraiser.

Money raised from ticket sales will be used to purchase low-level beds in an effort to reduce patient falls. The six-member Phoenix Committee raises money for the BSHS.

“We’re in a position where we can make the lives of patients more comfortable in their time of need,” Mr Stevenson said. 

The committee is also planning British and Australian themed fundraisers in the future.

Mr Stevenson said all equipment purchased would go to the Goulburn Base Hospital once the BSHS moved there. No date has been set for the relocation at this stage. 

The committee will continue after that time.

“There will be lots of needs that the government doesn’t supply and nor should it. The community has a big role to play in the hospital,” Mr Stevenson said.

Tickets for the Ceilidh night cost $40 and are available from BSHS, 234 Bourke Street. The night starts at 6.30pm.
